Why mobile?

Earlier this morning, I attended an inspiring presentation by Paul Daniels, where he showed us how he had used a program called Gallery, which with some simple code tweaking made it posible to post images, audio, video and text from mobile phones directly to web galleries. He had used this as a way of letting students bring chosen parts of their personal lives into class to create more authentic discussions around these contents.

A question was raised by the end of this presentation - is what we´re trying to do with mobile devices something new, or could it as easily be done with stationary ones? This made me think: does anyone know of examples of augmented reality activities for language learning purposes?

Mobile devices are much more convenient at times, and modern mobile phones are getting increasingly sophisticated.

I use the camera facility on my phone a lot when I am travelling, sending pics to my two daughters' phones and to my website. The picture of me sitting in Brussels on my personal wiki page was taken by my wife on my camera phone and sent to my website. I then uploaded it to my EUROCALL wiki page. I made the audio recording on the same wiki page with AudioSurgeon on my desktop PC, uploaded it to my website and then linked it to my EUROCALL wiki page. It took me around half an hour to create the page. Have a look:

This blog often mentions mobile devices:

Therese,

You might like to check out the Joint Information System Committee, UK´s (JISC) website on innovation and elearning. This link takes you to the area concentrating on mobile and wireless learning.

This link doesn´t open in a new window by the way as that attribute isn´t allowed in the comments posting, it seems! So, if you follow it, you´ll need to click on the back arrow in your browser to return here.
